PICTURES: Rooney’s lead role in Manchester United kit launch

Manchester United launched their 2013/2014 kit yesterday and it may have surprised some to see Wayne Rooney in such a prominent role. On the final home game of last season Sir Alex Ferguson confirmed that the striker had asked to leave the club for a second time in three years.

Ferguson has since retired and been replaced by Rooney’s former manager from Everton, David Moyes. Whilst their relationship hasn’t always been good one, with Moyes once suing Rooney for what was written in his autobiography about the manager, the pair resolved that and put it behind them. Whilst it looked as though Rooney would certainly be leaving, rumours suggested that Moyes would be able to talk him round.

Do the pictures indicate United envisage Rooney still playing for the club or next season? Or are they just trying to use him for marketing as much as they can before he leaves?
