Schalke defender Joel Matip has been a transfer target of Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp this transfer window.
He was linked with a move to Anfield earlier this month, and yesterday, Sky Sports reported that the Reds have placed a bid for the 24-year old, who will be out of contract with the Bundesliga club in the summer.
However, Schalke chairman Clemens Tonnies has rubbished the claims that Matip is on his way to Anfield. Tonnies said “That’s a hoax,” when asked by Sport 1 about a possible bid from the Reds for the defender.
According to reports in Germany, Schalke are confident that they can get their player to sign a new deal. But latest reports suggest player is indeed moving to England after ‘positive talks’ with Liverpool.
Matip missed today’s training and Reds are keen to seal the deal before Sunday’s deadline.
