PSG Could Be Forced To Sell Arsenal & Liverpool Target Cavani For Less Than £50m

PSG face a battle on their hands to get a good deal for embattled striker Edison Cavani. The Uruguayan forward hasn’t really lived up to expectation following his big money move from Napoli some summers ago. At PSG, he has been forced to play in an unfamiliar position which is on the wings no thanks to the presence of talismanic forward Zlatan Ibrahimovic who is undoubtedly the first choice striker.

Desire to play centrally has left Cavani unhappy and eyeing a move away from Parc de Princes. Club legend Jerome Rothen has also hinted a move away could be imminent. While Cavani would not be short of suitors as many top clubs in the Premier League a la Manchester United, Arsenal and Liverpool are reportedly keen on him, there are doubts as to the chances of PSG to recoup as much as the amount they paid Napoli from any of the interested parties.

If the suitors are contemplating paying the amount, they have been warned by fans of PSG not to do so as an opinion poll conducted by France football conducted showed that 71% of the fans believe Cavani isn’t worth 50million Pounds. That is not surprising as he was characteristically wasteful against Barca. A 50million Pounds player is expected to step up on the big stage.

Although almost every major club in England has been linked with Cavani at some point of late, it remains to be seen whether any of the potential suitors are willing to meet his price tag. If they listen to French football fans, they probably won’t.

This could be an advantage for the interested clubs. If fans of the club believe the player isn’t worth that much, then they might just be right. Also, the issue of financial fair play could also force PSG’s hands to settle for a reduced fee. The French champions have fallen foul of the financial rule and were sanctioned in the summer. The owners of the club claim that doesn’t affect them but it was one of the reasons if not the reason why they couldn’t sign Di Maria from Real Madrid despite been on his case for the better part of the summer.

Should PSG stick to their guns of demanding 50million Pounds from any interested party, Liverpool might just be the likeliest of the lot to win the race. The Reds still have money following the sale of Suarez and Rodgers in a recent report revealed that Balotelli wasn’t the prime choice to replace Suarez. The prime choice might just be Cavani and the money realized from the sale of his countryman might just help them get him.
