Arsenal have been given hope in the transfer race to sign Julian Draxler after his parent club Schalke reported rejected a £15.6 millon offer from Juventus for the midfielder. Draxler, 21, who was a target for the Gunners last summer, was said to have agreed personal terms with the Italian champions. However, Schalke, have insisted that Draxler will not be allowed to leave unless they receive their asking price for the player, which is understood to be £21.3 millon.
The Gunners looks to have missed out on a deal for the 21-year-old midfielder when Juventus and Schalke began talks last week, but the Bundesliga outfit rejected Juventus initial bid. Arsenal are now in pole position to sign the 21-year-old. The Bundesliga star could at the Emirate if the Gunners fork out £30 million a deal Schalke are reportedly holding out for. According to Arsenal director Lord Harris, Arsenal have £200 million to spend on summer transfers.
Chelsea are also said to be keeping tab on the midfielder and could battle it out with their London rivals to bring Draxler to the Premier league. Schalke sports director, Horst Heidt said Draxler’s contract still has three years to run but is now no longer subject to a release clause after it expired at the end of the month.
