RVP Replacement? Man United On The VERGE Of Signing £165,000-A-Week Star

The trio of strikers United possessed at the start of the last season was the envy of all Europe, let alone the Premier League. The striking trident of Wayne Rooney, Robin Van Persie and Radamel Falcao was seemingly perfect on paper, and United fans were hopeful that the three could majestically fire the club to Premier League glory.

However, what transpired on the field was something that even the most pessimistic Red Devil would have struggled to envisage at the start of the season. Falcao was a shadow of his former self and was at his best an expensive gamble, and at his worst a non-entity in the playing eleven. Van Persie’s decline had long been predicted before the season began, but the way his form nosedived was reminiscent of the frustrating early career displays at Arsenal. Rooney was the sole shining light , but even he had to slot into midfield for extended periods to cover United’s deficiencies in that area.

With Falcao’s loan deal not extended, and Van Persie off to Fenerbahce, United are short in the final third and have been linked with a host of big names throughout the summer. With links to players of the caliber of Thomas Müller and Edinson Cavani, United fans will be hoping for a marquee signing in that department, and if reports in the Daily Star are accurate ,the Old Trafford faithful are set to be treated with the signing of 28-year-old Uruguayan striker Cavani from Paris Saint-Germain.

Several outlets in UK and France have linked the Red Devils with a £45 million bid for the UUruguayan , with the striker widely tipped to complete a move in the coming days.

Landing Cavani will be a big coup for the Red Devils who are hoping for a credible title challenge next term under the stewardship of Louis Van Gaal. Cavani is set to become the club’s fifth new arrival this summer after the Old Trafford outfit have already announced deals for Memphis Depay, Matteo Darmian , Bastian Schweinsteiger and Morgan Schneiderlin.
