Sad News For Manchester United, Arsenal Set To Sign LVG’s Key Target

Manchester United and Arsenal are seemingly involved in a game of transfer merry-go-round this summer. After it became clear that long-term United target Arturo Vidal is close to signing for Arsenal , the Old Trafford outfit responded by agreeing a deal with Southampton for reported Gunners target Morgan Schneiderlin. It seems that the two clubs are determined to keep us entertained  throughout the summer with several instances where both have registered their interest in the same player.

However,for the time being , it seems that the Gunners have landed the next blow , with reports in Metro claiming that long-time United target Ezequiel Garay is “desperate” for a move to Arsenal to materialize this summer. The Argentine Central defender , who joined his current club Zenit St Petersburg just summer from Benfica , is said to be unhappy with life in Russia and is reportedly keen to test his talents at a higher level in order to cement his place in the national side.

After playing a pivotal role for the Russian League champions last season, his desire to leave the club had repeatedly flared the interest in Manchester United quarters , who had been persistently linked to the player in his Benfica days. United manager Louis van Gaal is on the lookout for a top class defender and looked all set to rekindle United’s interest in the long term target.However , Arsenal have seemingly stolen a march on their rivals and look all set to land the center back.

Arsenal have reportedly tabled an offer of £13 million for the services of the 28-year-old. However , the Russian champions are likely to hold out for more as they believe that £13 million is a shallow price for a player who , at 28 , is in the best years of his career.

Garay is currently on international duty with Argentina at the Copa America and a decision is expected after the conclusion of the tournament next week.

If the deal goes through , Arsenal fans can expect to get a classy defender who can be a long term replacement for either one of Per Mertesacker or Lorient Koscielny and can also act as a world class backup along with Gabriel Paulista to the current first choice pairing.
