Eintracht Frankfurt 2-0 Gladbach

Frankfurt continue to impress under Niko Kovac as they struck late on in the first and second half to move into second before the Sunday matches were played. Kevin-Prince Boateng put Frankfurt up right before the break after converting a cross from the left. Thorgan Hazard took at 78th minute penalty, but struck the crossbar before Luka Jovic completed a vital win in stoppage time. Boateng and Jovic combined to send Frankfurt to their best start to a year in 28 years.

Borussia Dortmund 2-2 Freiburg

(Kagawa 9′, Toljan 90+3′ – Petersen 20′, 68′)

Jeremy Toljan salvaged a draw with what was the last significant touch of the game to spare Dortmund complete embarrassment. Shinji Kagawa scored for his second league game in a row, but Nils Petersen managed to tuck away at Roman Burki’s near post to level. Nuri Sahin’s mistake let Petersen put a first-time chip, on the turn, over Burki from 40 yards out before Toljan saved Dortmund.

RB Leipzig 1-1 Hamburg

(Bruma 9′ – Kostic 30′)

Leipzig’s early efforts were rewarded after Bruma headed in after nine minutes. Leipzig’s players used the celebration to pay tribute to left-back Marcel Halstenberg, who is out for the season and will miss the World Cup. New manager Bernd Hollerbach eventually took away an unlikely point in his first game in charge after Filip Kostic went around Hungarian Peter Gulacsi to level.

Koln 1-1 Augsburg

(Jojic 40′ – Caiuby 77′)

Cologne’s attempt at liberation from the drop zone was slowed as they failed to win a fourth successive game in this battle against Augsburg. The game did not fail to entertain, with both teams creating chances and failing to take them. It took until the 40th minute for Milos Jojic to break the deadlock, scoring Koln’s first with a direct free-kick from 25 yards out. Marwin Hitz played exceptionally well and kept his side in the contest before Caiuby nodded in a corner. Simon Terodde and Jojic will regret their misses prior to that, as Cologne may have thrown away two vital points in that match.

Bayern Munich 5-2 Hoffenheim

(Lewandowski 20′, Boateng 25′, Coman 64′, Vidal 66′, Wagner 90′ – Uth 3′, Gnabry 12′)

The league leaders came from behind in empathic fashion to win a seven-goal thriller against Hoffenheim. Serge Gnabry kicked off the action early, winning a penalty against his parent club and missing, although Mark Uth punched in the rebound after Sven Ulreich’s save. Gnabry made amends by adding Hoffenheim’s second with a low drive from distance. A quick-fire double from Robert Lewandowski and Jerome Boateng tied Bayern up, and there were four goals in the match before thirty minutes had passed. Things didn’t get better for Hoffenheim, as Bayern scored three more in the second period through Kingsley Coman, Arturo Vidal, and new signing Sandro Wagner.

Stuttgart 0-2 Schalke

(Naldo 14′, Harit 19′)

Stuttgart put up little fight while outclassed by a profligate Schalke at home. Naldo became the most capped Brazilian in the Bundesliga and celebrated the occasion with a goal, his fifth of the season. Amine Harit put the win beyond doubt from the spot after Leon Goretzka was fouled in the area.

Werder Bremen 0-0 Hertha Berlin

Bremen and Hertha contrived to somehow not put any in the back of the net in a game which produced many chances. Maximilian Eggestein thought he had Bremen’s opener but the goal was pulled back due to a Thomas Delaney foul in the buildup. The game proved to be just as frustrating from then Eggestein had a great chance with the last action of the game, after Ishak Belfodil headed down an Aron Johannsson cross, but was denied by a goal-line clearance. Vedad Ibisevic had nearly put Hertha ahead earlier in the match with his first touch after coming on, but failed to convert from inside the six-yard box.

Leverkusen 2-0 Mainz

(Bailey 48′, Wendell pen. 68′)

Leverkusen became the first team since matchday 11 to have started the weekend in 2nd and still win. Both sides struggled to impose themselves on the game, but Lucas Alario went close with a header just before the break. Leon Bailey found the opposite top corner with an effort from 25 yards out, and Wendell added a second after Alario was downed in the box. Bayer are back on track and on form after beat by leaders Bayern three weeks ago.

Hannover 0-1 Wolfsburg

A game in which literally nothing other than Yunus Malli’s moment of brilliance occurred. Both sides continued their struggles of late, and this match had failed to live up to the expectations and past matches of these two sides.
