Shock – Diego Costa Will Return to Atletico Madrid if Diego Simeone Stays in the Club
Rumours linking Chelsea striker Diego Costa with a move back to Atletico Madrid doesn’t seem to die down. We reported yesterday that Chelsea finally refused a bid from Atletico Madrid but Spanish publication AS has claimed that the 27-year old striker is still interested in a move back to Vicente Calderon, but wants an assurance from the club that manager Diego Simeone will be in charge of the club for foreseeable future.
The Brazilian-born Spanish international sparkled at Atletico under Simeone before securing a big money move to Premier League. He helped Atletico win the La Liga title and reach the final of Champions League.
He continued his form and helped the Blues claim a double in his first season ion Premier League, but his second season in English football has been marred by controversies.
He recently failed to rule out a move back to his old club. “You never know – look where Filipe Luis is now. Life is full of surprises,” he said in an interview with Onda Cero. “I always wish Atletico the best, and I always follow them, I support them from afar.”
Even Atletico president Enrique Cerezo adopted the same tone when asked about his former player. Speaking to RTVE, he said:Â “Right now, Diego is a Chelsea player, and he has to focus on Chelsea. But you never know what will happen in football, and sometimes players do return to their former clubs.”
