While Gunners are waiting on the management of the club to bring in some more world-class players, especially after signing Petr Cech from Chelsea a couple of weeks back; the fans are apprehensive over various rumours linking one of the club’s most reliable defenders with a move to Athletic Bilbao of Spain.
Nacho Monreal has continued to be linked with a move back to the La Liga, and it seems the rumours just won’t go away. While the Gunners didn’t raise the eyebrow over the departure of Lukas Podolski to Turkey; the same cannot be said for Monreal, who has made the left-back positions permanently his due to his recent form.
According to the Metro, the Spanish international could be on his way to the La Liga, where interest in his signature has been shown by Athletic Bilbao. Also confirming the story, Spanish media outlet Marca says, Monreal is set to put pen to paper on a three-year deal with the Spanish club.
Arsenal and representatives of the player have put on hold any contract talk, which may have drawn the attention of the Spanish club, who see the Spanish international as the right man to help shore up the left side of their defence next season.
While Monreal formerly of Osasuna and Malaga has not spoken against any move to take him back to the La Liga; the player recently expressed his delight at fighting for his place in the Gunners’ team next season. This indicates that he is already looking ahead to next season with the Gunners.
