Want-away Chelsea winger Christian Atsu could join Malaga on a permanent basis. The Ghanaian winger is certainly a forgotten man at Chelsea since his move from Porto in 2013. It’s so bad that the winger failed to make a single competitive appearance for Chelsea. It is no wonder he wants a move away.
Atsu has been an abandoned sheep as he was shipped off to Vitesse, Everton and Bournemouth over the past three years. The abandoned winger seems to have found a more stable stay in Spain with Malaga.
Atsu has not held back his desire go quit Chelsea for the Spanish outfits. The winger has found a place where he actually gets game time and better yet he performs well. The 24-year-old Ghanaian has featured for Malaga on 10 occasions since arriving in January.
Speaking to Marca, Atsu has again professed his desire to be a Malaga player on a permanent basis. Despite his desire to stay put in Spain, his future hangs in the balance as Malaga have not approached Chelsea in order to finalise a permanent deal.
“The decision [on whether I stay at Malaga or go back to Chelsea] does not depend on me, so I have to wait,” Atsu said. “I have not received any offers from Malaga yet. I have a contract with Chelsea but I think everything is possible in football. However, I am aware that is not my decision.”
“I am very happy here because I’m living a very positive experience. The truth is that I realised very quickly that the decision to come here was right. Here the atmosphere is perfect for a footballer.
“Malaga is a great place. Here I have everything to succeed and grow as a player. I really like the Spanish league because its style helps me be to be a better player. I think I could show much more here.
“The club is good, fans encourage you and my teammates are great. Everything influences a player to grow and improve.” I don’t know about you but that statement says it all. Atsu is asking Malaga to come out and grab him.
Although he has not had the opportunity to prove his worth for Chelsea, Atsu has excelled internationally as he picked up the AFCON best player award. It could simply mean that the Premier league style does not work for Atsu.
It is more difficult to play short quick passes to open defences up whereby playing a long ball and running into space is more common in England. The Premier league requires wingers to often track back as full-backs gallivant forward almost as second nature. Atsu is not familiar with this and it is difficult to adjust. Additionally the Premier league is highly physical and quick, skilful players like Atsu can easily get cramped up as they do not always succeed.
Atsu just needs more freedom to be his best. Playing behind the striker or drifting wide to create width, Atsu can do that and when in those positions he can dribble his way through and deliver a delicious ball for his teammates. La Liga will certainly allow Atsu to show his inner best and surely Chelsea won’t hold back the move.
