“There Are Negotiations In Place” The Boss Confirm Defender Deal Almost Done
Spanish giants, Atletico Madrid, have confirmed their interest in signing want-away Chelsea defender, Filipe Luis.
Luis, who moved to the English club last summer along with Diego Costa, has struggled to earn a place in the star-studded Chelsea squad. Now it seems help is on the way to take him back to the former La Liga champions before the end of the window, as club President, Enrique Cerezo has confirmed in one of the English media outlets.
According to Sky Sport, the Spanish club wants to sign the player this window:
“There are negotiations in place but I don’t know how fruitful they will be. Filipe Luis is a magnificent player. We would be delighted if he comes back and I think that in the end, we will find a solution. As always, the financial aspect takes precedence over the sentimental aspect but I believe a deal can be reached.”
The 29-year old failed to impress critics in his first season in England; playing in just 26 matches for the current EPL champions. The Blues have tried shipping him out to other interested clubs since the window opened; but Atletico now offers them the best opportunity to do a deal, provided the price is right for both parties.
However, Jose Mourinho may not want to sanction a move out of Stanford Bridge for the player unless he is able to find a replacement for him before the transfer window closes next month. Luis is the only suitable cover for first choice Cesar Azpilicueta at the moment.
