Three Transfers Chelsea Could Complete This Week – Including Griezmann
The transfer season has finally clicked into gear for Premier League champions Chelsea. After a slow start to the window, where Petr Cech’s exit to Arsenal was the only major news concerning Chelsea doing the rounds, the transfer summer has well and truly exploded into action at the Stamford Bridge recently.
Here we take a look at the latest transfer news surrounding the Blues.
- Mohamed Salah to Atletico Madrid
23-year-old Egyptian winger Mohamed Salah finds himself at a crossroads this summer. The player was wanted by Italian Club Fiorentina after impressing on loan in the second half of last season. The Viola were desperate to extend the player’s stay, but the player refused the offer of an extension to stay at Chelsea and fight for his place. However, with the mooted arrival of Atletico forward Antoine Griezmann , Salah is considered surplus to requirements at the Bridge and the Blues are ready to auction him all around Europe in the hope of recouping the Ā£11 million i investment they made on him.
The player has been linked with an Ā£18 million move to Atletico Madrid , and has also been mentioned as a makeweight in a player-plus-cash deal for Griezmann. Whatever way these developments pan out, one thing remains highly likely that Salah is sure to depart the Premier League champions this summer.
- John Obi Mikel to Fenerbahce
Chelsea have undoubtedly the strongest midfield axis in the Premier League, with the combination of Fabregas and Matic the strongest partnership in the league at the base of the midfield. With the trio of Oscar, Willian and Hazard in front of the two, Chelsea hardly have a scope of an upgrade. Perhaps the only weak link in the team last season was the lack of a proper cover for the holding midfield role, with current incumbent John Obi Mikel struggling for form after a couple of indifferent seasons. Chelsea regularly struggled to find that extra groove in the absence of Fabregas and Oscar through injury last season. The Nigerian has been a shadow of his former self in recent seasons and is now reportedly on his way out of the club, with Mourinho aiming to bolster his midfield options with the prospective signings of Paul Pogba and Charles Aranguiz.
The acquisition of those two will surely go a long way to solving the Blues’ midfield conundrum and will provide Mourinho with one of the strongest midfields in the division. Mikel, for his part , has been persistently linked with a move to Turkish club Fenerbahce. The Blues expect a reasonable Ā£8 million from his sale and with several outlets deeming this a done deal , an announcement is expected in the coming days.
- Loic Remy to Besiktas
French striker Loic Remy has been consistently linked with a move away from the Stamford Bridge club this summer, after failing to establish himself at the Blues since joining last summer. With the Premier League champions having already confirmed the arrival of Radamel Falcao on loan for next season , and Diego Costa undoubtedly the first choice at the club, Remy’s race at Chelsea appears to have been run.
Being a third choice is not what the former Newcastle man envisaged while joining the club, and an Ā£8 million offer that is on the table from Turkish club Besiktas might be enough to trigger his departure from the club.
