Chelsea are more confident than ever to sign Atletico Madrid manager Diego Simeone following the transfer ban on the Spanish club, reports The Mirror.
The Argentinean manager has been Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich’s first choice to take over the club in the summer, but the Blues’ approach for his services was not met with any enthusiasm.
Now according to the report, the latest transfer ban changes everything. Atletico have been hit with a transfer ban for next two transfer windows along with Real Madrid. They also have to pay a £620,000 fine.
This ban could have serious implications on La Liga as Atletico and Real might find it hard to compete with Barcelona, who have just served their own ban, in the league for next couple of seasons. The ban is also expected to derail Atletico’s plan to re-sign Diego Costa in the summer.
Atletico Madrid, however, are planning to challenge the ban.
