Transfer Merry Go Round Could See Arsenal Sign Thiago Motta

Arsenal have been joined in the pursuit of Barcelona star Sergio Busquets by Paris Saint-Germain, with reports saying the Ligue 1 champions are already in advanced negotiations as the club look to replace want-away midfielder Thiago Motta this summer.

PSG are presently negotiating Motta’s move back to the La Liga with Atletico Madrid ad have pinpointed Busquets as his ideal replacement and now Arsene Wenger knows he has to act swiftly if he still fancies having the highly-rated play breaker in his squad.

The Gunners are scouring Europe for a top notch defensive midfielder who can help push the club to the Premier League title which has eluded them for more than a decade and Barcelona’s Sergio Busquets has been identified as the ideal fit, according to reports. Spanish publication Sport had said Arsene Wenger has drawn up a list of potential summer targets and the Barcelona midfielder tops that list.

The former Monaco tactician is understood to be a keen admirer of Busquets who he believes will be a perfect replacement for the ageing Mikel Arteta and also an upgrade on Francis Coquelin

Busquets – who is totemic to the Blaugrana – has a long term contract with the La Liga champions which runs out in 2019. After the retirement of Carles Puyol, he asked to be given the No.5 shirt won by the Barcelona legend at his personal request.

Although Coquelin has been impressive for Arsenal in the past few months, Wenger is of the belief that Busquets will give the Gunners an option of playing from the back and break up plays, something the French gaffer has longed for, for years.

Wenger knows Arteta’s legs are getting tired at 33 and he will be struggling to keep up with the surprisingly fast pace which the Premier League if famed for, hence, Busquets’ addition will be like the final piece of the jigsaw in the Arsenal midfield.

Whether the 27-year old would be willing to leave the Nou Camp for the Emirates remain highly debatable as he has just done the treble with the Catalans last term. Also, Barcelona will likely be unwilling to sell, knowing fully well that winger Pedro Rodriguez will also be joining Manchester United anytime soon.

But if Arsenal manage to pull off this deal ahead of PSG, they will be boosted in their pursuit for glory in the upcoming campaign.

Busquets is a decorated winner of five La Liga titles, three Champions Leagues, one World Cup title and three Copas Del Rey to name a few.

Arsene Wenger’s side have made only one major acquisition this summer, with Petr Cech from Chelsea after losing his number 1 spot to Belgian goalie Thibaut Courtois.
