Transfer News – Arsenal Offers High Rated Striker Three Years Deal

After sending out two of its strikers out on loan to Inter Milan of Italy and Crystal Palace, Arsenal are poised to retain the services of one of its promising forward, Chuba Akpom. According to the Independent, the 19-year old, whose current contract with the Gunners expires at the end of the season, has been offered a three-year extension.

Akpom, who has been in blistering form for the Arsenal youth teams, has not been able to break into the first team partly due to the manager’s preference for Yaya Sanogo as cover for Olivier Giroud and Danny Welbeck. The 19-year old is reportedly being linked with a move to Bundesliga club Borussia Dortmund; a move, which may not go down well with the hierarchy at the club who view Akpom as one for the future.

However, the paper reports that the player, who is also eligible to play for the Super Eagles of Nigeria is set to remain at the Emirates this window considering the fact that the club needs to provide cover for Podolski, Sanogo, and injured Welbeck.

Akpom, whom the paper claims is weighing his options, is said to want a guarantee of first-team football. Given the attacking options at the club, it remains to be seen if the forward has any chance of breaking into the team any time soon.

Akpom has a very impressive record in the England Under-20 team, scoring three goals in five appearances, and another six goals in fourteen for the Under-19 side.

This window, there has been more departures out of the club, which could only mean that Wenger has plans to integrate the England Under-20 striker into the first team. The club, according to reports in the media is finalising plans to bring in 17-year old Polish young star Krystian Bielik to the Emirates; but this is not one of those deals a lot of Arsenal fans are eagerly awaiting for in the current window.
