United Beat Chelsea Once Again as They Sign Young Superstar, Player Has Handed in Transfer Request

Manchester United have been dealt a boost in their pursuit of Sadio Mane after recent reports revealed that Senegalese star handed in transfer request.

23-year-old Mane has been in the form of his life ever since he signed for the Saints in the summer of 2014. Signed for a fee of 11m pounds from Austrian side Red Bull Salzburg, Mane has turned out to be a real bargain. He scored 13 goals and notched up 9 assists in 40 appearances in all competitions in his first season in England.

A return of 7 goals and 8 assists in 25 appearances in all competitions this season sees the Saints superstar on track to not only meet the benchmark that he set for himself, but also better it.

Such outstanding form never goes unnoticed and surely, Manchester United have reportedly sat up and taken notice of the player. Louis Van Gaal is supposedly a fan of the player and he may have earmarked the young talent as someone who can help turnaround his side’s poor form in front of goal this season.

United’s Dutch manager is really facing the music after seeing his side suffer from some really poor form. In fact, they had gone more than a month and a half since winning a football match in any competition before they beat Swansea City by two goals to one at Old Trafford.

According to a report in the Daily Mail though, Mane’s position at Southampton has come under threat after he was dropped from the squad by manager Ronald Koeman for a breach of discipline. Also, the simple fact that Koeman decided to flash this piece of sensitive information for the entire world to see could further cause Mane to leave the club.

Southampton had been trying to get Mane to sign an extension with them on top of his current deal that lasts till 2018. Their efforts have gone in vain till now and with this latest development, there’s not much for Saints fans to be too hopeful about. Clubs like Manchester United, Chelsea and Bayern Munich have all been credited with an interest for the player.
