The Dutchman is also reportedly planning to bring in a full-back because he is currently facing a shortage of defenders as Antonio Valencia, Luke Shaw and Marcos Rojo remain on the injuries-list.
Van Gaal who has been under intense pressure because of the mid-season crisis said that although January is not the best time to bring in new player, he will not discard bringing in new player to Old Trafford.
“January brings the opening of the transfer window and, as I have already seen, we have been linked to a host of players,” Van Gaal explained.
“However, if I and the coaches feel that something can be done to improve the current squad then that is something we will look at if the opportunity does arise.”
