Manchester United have cast their eyes on Southampton live-wire Sadio Mane and Belgian midfielder Youri Tielemans, with a view to making a swoop for the hotly-tipped youngsters, as per the Express.
Anderlecht midfield man Tielemans has been monitored by United’s scouts, but the Red Devils could face stiff competition from Chelsea who are also keen on luring the 18-year old to Stamford Bridge.
According to the Daily Mail, Tielemans could be a replacement for veteran midfielders Bastian Schweinsteiger and Michael Carrick, who are both 31 and 34 respectively and could be calling time on their career anytime soon.
Tielemans is comfortable going forward as well as playing in the holding midfield role as a shield for the back-four. The Belgian teenager caught the eye of several European sides when he burst onto the scene as a 16-year old, becoming the youngest ever Belgian to feature in the Champions League.
Meanwhile, United manager Louis van Gaal has also ordered the club’s board to sign Southampton’s Mane due to Memphis Depay’s recent struggles, so say the Express.
The former PSV Eindhoven star has come in for criticism even for his off-field antics, but Mane is in superb form at the moment.
United made an offer for the Senegalese during the summer, but the Saints held on to him.
With boss Ronald Koeman also admitting Mane could leave the St. Mary’s one day and with the player’s brilliant form, the Mancunian Reds will surely make another attempt to lure him to Old Trafford in January.
