Wayne Rooney Starts – Manchester United Likely Line Up For Southampton
After missing United’s last two games against Liverpool and PSV Eindhoven respectively due to a slight injury, Wayne Rooney is set to return for Manchester United for their trip to the St Mary’s stadium to face Southampton on Sunday.
As per the Guardian, Rooney will return to lead the attack for United against the Saints after regaining full fitness. Teenage forward Anthony Martial, whose move to Old Trafford on the last day of the transfer window has made him the most expensive teenager in the world, could be the one to make way in order to accommodate the skipper.
Martial led the line for the Red Devils during the midweek in their Champions League tie against PSV and failed to make any reasonable impact.
Also, Morgan Schneiderlin is also set to miss out on a place in the starting line-up for the third successive time, against his former side. Having spent seven seasons at the South Coast outfit, the 25-year old Frenchman will be aiming to play some part of the game. However, United are expected to line up with veterans Bastian Schweinsteiger and Michael Carrick in the central midfield.
Another ex-Saints player who will certainly miss out is Luke Shaw, after the left-back suffered a leg fracture during United’s defeat to PSV during the midweek.
Reports have claimed Marcos Rojo is in line to fill the void left open by Shaw at left-back, as United look to bounce back to winning ways.
