Welcome To Old Trafford? Cavani’s Agent Confirms BID Has Been Made

Manchester United are one of the biggest clubs in world football. Their rich history, fantastic stadium, plethora of domestic and European honours over the years and perhaps the biggest fan base over the world all lay claim to the club’s standing among the top tier in European football. This has been further attested by the lavish amounts that the club has spent in the last two summers. After spending well over £130 million last summer, the Old Trafford outfit have shelled out a further £80 million already this summer to bring in Bastian Schweinsteiger , Memphis Depay , Morgan Schneiderlin and Matteo Darmian.

However, they are seemingly not done yet, with Louis Van Gaal having made no secret of his desire to add a prolific striker to his ranks , having cut loose both Robin Van Persie and Radamel Falcao after underwhelming campaigns last term. With Javier Hernandez allegedly set to depart this summer, that leaves Wayne Rooney as the only senior striker in the United setup , apart from youngster James Wilson.

The  names of Thomas Müller and Edinson Cavani have been frequently mentioned in conjunction with that of United throughout the summer, and the Red Devils faithful are optimistic that their club can land the deadly duo. While Müller’s future still remains unclear, the Daily Star has now reported that Cavani’s agent has dropped a hint that United have made a move for the 27-year-old Uruguayan striker.

Cavani’s agent and older brother, Walter Guglielmone, while speaking to the French media, admitted that the striker has received several offers from Europe’s elite to leave France. He stated: “This summer, Edi has received interest from big clubs who are looking for a centre forward.”

Since joining from Napoli in 2013,Cavani hasn’t exactly set the Ligue 1 alight with his performances in the manner he did in Serie A.

Though he has chipped in with his fair share of goals, he has always played second fiddle to Zlatan Ibrahimovic and has been shunted out to the left to let the Swede have a central role. The Uruguayan’s 18 goals in 35 league appearances last term helped PSG on their way to the Ligue 1 title and he also played a pivotal part in the French champions’ run to the quarter finals of the Champions League.

Widely regarded as one of the deadliest finishers in the game , Cavani has the pedigree to transform Manchester United from title contenders to outright favourites for glory.
