Welcome To Old Trafford? Man United Commence More To Sign UCL Winner
Red Devils’ defender Luke Shaw suffered a horrific leg break during the Champions League group stage tie against PSV Eindhoven during the midweek, and the left-back is expected to face a lengthy spell on the sidelines.
Manchester United have since been rumoured to be eyeing potential left-back replacements for the Englishman, and Barcelona star Adriano has now emerged as one of their targets.
As per the Metro who cite reports from Spain, United boss Louis van Gaal has singled out Adriano as a prime transfer target and United are weighing up a move to sign the Brazilian left-back when the transfer window reopens in January.
Leeds United left-back Charlie Taylor has also been mentioned as a suitable cover for the injured Shaw, but according to Spanish media outlet Fichajes, van Gaal thinks Adriano perfectly fits the bill and has made the 30-year old Brazilian his top target. This seems to be pointing to the fact that reports claiming the Dutchman has promised Shaw the left-back position in the team when he returns from his injury are true. Because at 30, Adriano’s signing will certainly be for the short term.
Adriano has made over 100 appearances for the Catalan giants and could be willing to leave the Camp Nou as he has been sparingly used by boss Luis Enrique who prefers Jordi Alba instead. In Barcelona’s treble winning 2014/15 season, the Selecao star featured 16 times, 10 of which were starts.
Nevertheless, Adriano’s quality and experience will benefit Manchester United, provided he joins.
