Wenger Speaks On POSSIBILITY Of Edinson Cavani Joining Arsenal

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has cooled rumours linking him with a bid for PSG striker Edinson Cavani. The Gunners have been linked with a mega-money move for PSG striker Edinson Cavani in recent weeks who have grown disillusioned with life at the Parc des Princes and wants out of the club. With recent reports emerging that Podolski’s loan move to Inter Milan was intended to create space in the team for the arrival of the former PSG hitman.

But despite revealing that young striker Yaya Sanogo could join Podolski out on the loan spells, Arsene Wenger has maintained that he will not be signing any attacking player as a replacement.

He said; “No, we are not on the case [on a striker or midfielder]. We have plenty of creative players. We are more short on the defensive side of our game” Wenger said.

Reports in the rumour mill indicates Arsene Wenger remains coy on his transfer dealings until at least the late stages of the transfer window. Arsene Wenger who has a knack for leaving his transfer activities until the closing stages now maintains that the likes of Mathieu Flamini, Mesut Ozil and Aaron Ramsey who are poised to making their return from the sidelines will give his squad the much needed boost.

“I feel [we are getting stronger now]. We could benefit from that [returning players] because these are players who are not overloaded with games.” he added. “Some of our players have played 26 or 27 games, whereas some have played four or five. These players coming back can give us some impact for the coming months.”

All that said, do the gunners really need him as they already have Alexis Sanchez, Oliver Giroud, Danny Welbeck and Theo Walcott who can lead the line for them. The Gunners do still lack a world-class striker, but in Danny Welbeck and Olivier Giroud, there is enough quality to do a lot of damage to teams. With so many striking options and so little defensive options, signing Cavani would be exactly what Arsenal should not do right now. In the summer maybe.

Instead of a superstar striker Arsenal need a world class defensive midfielder and a defensive cover for the partnership of Per Mertasacker and Laurent Koscielny. Although Arsenal fans will welcome Cavani with open arms money should be spent in areas that need strengthening. I expect Wenger to in the least sign for us a defensive midfielder and a centre back in the winter transfer window. Failure to do so, and we may have to kiss good bye to our 4th place trophy.
