Chelsea and Man Utd are competing against each other to sign the next ‘Cristiano Ronaldo’, according to reports. Daily Star claims that both clubs have sent scouts to watch Benfica winger Goncalo Guedes.
According to the report, Man Utd sent their scouts last week to watch over the 19-year old whereas the Blues have already sent their scout on five occasions to watch the talented winger.
Man Utd and Chelsea are not the only two clubs interested in the youngster as clubs such as Arsenal, Liverpool, Manchester City as well as Paris St-Germain, and Bayern Munich have previously shown interests in the mercurial talent.
Guedes has risen through Benfica’s youth academy and has been attached to the club since he was eight years old. He was the first Portuguese player since Cristiano Ronaldo to make an appearance for the national team at the age of 18 when he featured against Russia back in November.
He also became the youngest Portuguese player to score in the group stages of Champions League when he scored in the 2-1 win over Atletico Madrid in September.
His current contract with the club runs until 2021, and he has a huge £45m release clause in his contract.
