Despite being beaten in the Capital One Cup by Stoke City, Mourinho in his usual fashion remained recalcitrant when he met with the press.
Chelsea came from behind and equalised in the 91nd minutes and pushed the game to extra time. However, their woes were compounded not only by injury to Diego Costa in the 32nd minute but the defeat that has become like a norm for Chelsea since the inception of this season.
Despite the fact that the Potters were a man short in the second half, the Blues didn’t play as though they wanted the win in extra time. However, following their knock out from the competition, Mourinho eulogised his players and berated the media by calling them stupid for fervently criticising his players.
In the post match press conference, the Portuguese gaffer said:
What the players did tonight is face some people that write and speak, and said: You are stupid.
He further said:
“What some people write and say is really bad for the players. Maybe they think my players are like them when they were players. My players don’t do that, they tried everything. How can my players go home with a lack of confidence [after this performance]? I feel sad for them, not myself. I think they have to be frustrated because they are not getting what they deserve.”
Even though Mourinho has been publicly parted at the back to continue managing Chelsea, his fate for Chelsea is in the balance as he is likely to lose his job this weekend if he fails to beat Liverpool.
