Liverpool To ANNOUNCE Signing Of Man United & Chelsea Target On Monday

Liverpool are set to make 24-year-old England International and Southampton right-back Nathaniel Clyne their sixth signing of the summer, after reportedly agreeing a deal worth up to £12.5 million with the south-coast club. The news was confirmed by The Liverpool Echo who also believe that the player would sign a five-year deal at Anfield once he returns from holiday next week.

Clyne had just a single year to run on his current deal at Southampton and had made it clear to the Saints’ hierarchy that he would not sign an extension. Southampton, for their part, have already signed a replacement in Cedric Soares.Liverpool had bid £10 million for his services earlier in the summer but that bid had been rejected as Southampton were believed to be holding on for more. Manchester United were also interested in the player, but it finally seems that the Reds are on the brink of achieving his signature.

Journalist Simon Peach from The Press Association has also stated that Clyne is close to joining the Reds. However, he has also stated that the news could take a few more days for confirmation until the player returns from his holiday. Clyne would follow in the footsteps of Adam Lallana , Rickie Lambert and Dejan Lovren who all swapped Southampton for Liverpool last summer.

Liverpool’s need for a new right-back was well documented, after it became clear that Glen Johnson would leave the club as a free agent this summer, with Javier Manquillo failing to nail down a regular starting spot and Jon Flanagan the victim of long-term injury. Clyne will hope to build upon the break-out season he had last term, which also saw him awarded his first England cap.

The Reds have had a pretty busy summer and have already finalised deals for six players even before the transfer window has officially opened. Clyne is set to join James Milner , Danny Ings , Adam Bogdan , Joe Gomez and Roberto Firmino as new Liverpool recruits this summer.
