Arsenal Close To SIGNING WORLD CLASS Award Winning DM, £20m Deal Almost Done

Arsene Wenger looks like a man possessed this summer. After defying his age old reputation in the transfer market for the past two summers in buying proven world class talents like Mesut Ozil and Alexis Sanchez , he is set to go not one , not two , but three better this year. This is a welcome change for Gunners fans after enduring years of watching their club’s inability , or rather , refusal to spend big.

Wenger is targeting a world class signing in each department this season . With Cech already in the bag, the goalkeeping spot is done and dusted. Garay is mooted to follow soon in defence and at £13 million looks a bargain. Either one of Karim Benzema or Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang is widely tipped to ply his trade at the Emirates next season, thus sorting out the attack. That leaves just the defensive midfield position , which has proven Wenger’s biggest problem for several years and his biggest source of criticism.

However , Wenger may have finally found a way to solve his defensive conundrum. The Daily Star is reporting that Arsenal are on the verge of signing highly rated 23-year-old Portuguese defensive midfielder William Carvalho from Sporting Lisbon for a reportedly in the region of £20 million. Already touted as one of the best young players in the world , Carvalho’s stock has risen further owing to his commanding performances for his country at the currently ongoing European under-21 championships, where he has guided Portugal all the way to the finals of the competition.

Wenger has now identified the Portugal International as the player to fulfil the defensive midfielder role in his team. Despite the emergence of Francis Coquelin last season , it was clear that Arsenal needed a significant ugrade on the youngster to provide a better shield to his defence and give himself a realistic chance of ending Arsenal’s long wait for the Premier League title.

Carvalho has a mature head on his young shoulders as evidenced by his dominating  performances for club and country in the last year. With already a world cup experience under his belt , he is experienced enough to perform well in an environment as demanding as the Premier League.

Carvalho will be expected to provide the balance in midfield which Gunners have previously lacked with Mikel Arteta and Mathieu Flamini manning the position. With long time servants like the aforementioned duo and Tomas Rosicky close to leaving the club this summer , Arsenal fans can expect a new look midfield next season with the dominating Carvalho at its base.
