Chelsea Targets PSG’s Marquinhos For Summer Move

Despite having the tightest defence in the Premier League, Chelsea and Jose Mourinho are not relenting on their efforts, and are seriously planning building a defence for the future.

With the future of Gary Cahill, Kurt Zumao and Club Captain all but secured, Chelsea have been linked with the signing of Paris Saint-Germain young defender, Marquinhos Aoás Corrêa.

Marquinhos joined Paris Saint-Germain from Roma for around £15,000,000 has had some very impressive displays which has seen his market value increase to £40,000,000, a fee reports claim Jose Mourinho is more than willing to pay.

Marquinhos began his career at Corinthians, and after winning the 2012 Copa Libertadores he moved to Roma for a fee rising to €3 million. Marquinhos was a regular in his only season as Roma reached the Coppa Italia Final, he made his full international debut for Brazil in 2013, and was also part of their Under-20 side which won the 2014 Toulon Tournament.

Marquinhos is an all-rounder. He is physical, imposing, a thinker and his athleticism helps him easily make up for any slip-ups that are natural for someone still learning their trade. A young versatile player who can also play in the Right-back position would definitely look like a good buy for Jose Mourinho.

Should Chelsea be unable to sign Raphael Varane from Real Madrid, the Brazilian would certainly be a good expensive back up choice. But with the price tag comes the very real danger of over-expectation, however it is unrealistic to expect that Marquinhos will automatically become a starter for now, rather would be an understudy to the ageing John Terry who isn’t getting any younger, but would give defensive depth and significantly strengthening a backline that is already solid.
