Latest Injury Update On Thibaut Courtois

Having returned from a long loan at Atletico Madrid last season, Thibaut Courtois had gone ahead to establish himself as Chelsea’s 1st choice goalie, displacing Petr Cech who had taken charge in-between the sticks for 11 years and eventually left for bitter rivals, Arsenal. Courtois went on to help the Blues to a title win last season, and he was poised to do so this season until he got sidelined by a knee injury. He has since been replaced with stand-in goalie, Asmir Begovic, who was brought in during the summer transfer window.

The Belgian number 1, picked up a knee injury during a training session earlier this month, and has since been operated on. He is set to be out for months, and may not return to the goal post until January. But to allay the fears of concerned fans, he took to Instagram yesterday to show his steady recovery after uploading a picture of himself swimming. This is in a bid to help restore strength to his knees, and he could return to action earlier than expected.

Chelsea currently sit 15th, 3 places above the relegation zone, and they have had a relatively bad season at home thus far. Begovic however hasn’t been a bad backup, but the whole team as a whole has underperformed, letting in 14 goals in as much as 7 matches. They have won only 2 games, and have had the 2nd most porous defence in the League thus far, and they remain in dire need of the services of the young Thibaut who kept 12 clean sheets in his 32 League appearances last season.
