Southampton vs Liverpool: Match review, predicted lineups and latest on Sadio Mane and Alberto Moreno

Knocking arch-rivals Manchester United out of the Europa League in midweek has boosted morale further and Liverpool are now keen to boost their Premier League campaign as they visit Southampton on Sunday, looking for a fourth consecutive Premier League win.

Liverpool clash with Southampton has been named as a “clash between two equally matched sides, banked on the fact that both sides have 44 points on the table and it a big game for both clubs as they remain focused to close the gap between them and eye for champions league place next season.

Liverpool manager Jürgen Klopp has managed to successfully transform Liverpool’s season since taking over back in October, banked on the spectacular performance and the rise of players such as Lallana and Firmino.

Liverpool are currently flying high under Klopp especially after the Thursday’s 1-1 draw at Old Trafford ensuring they reached the last-eight in the Europa League. Besides, the Reds are known to have a good history against the Saints given the reverse fixture resulted in a – win for the Reds, with the last meeting at St. Mary’s being the League Cup quarter final back in December – which resulted in a comprehensive 6-1 thrashing.

Speaking ahead of the match, Klopp said: “Everything is prepared for a good game. Southampton are a really good side and if we want to win we have to be really good.”

It is evident Liverpool fans are confident enough to secure a win on Sunday, and Klopp had this to say: “The problem with confidence is that it’s a little flower and if you step on it it’s gone in a second. But it’s not only about confidence, it’s about feeling more and more trust in our way of playing.”

Liverpool head into the fixture without the services of Joe Gomez, Lucas Leiva, Jordan Rossiter and Danny Ings due to injury and James Milner because of suspension. Besides, there is a minor doubt regarding left back Alberto Moreno. That said Southampton without Charlie Austin while Jay Rodriguez and Florin Gardos are both unlikely to feature. Victor Wanyama and Jose Fonte are reportedly available after serving their suspensions. Sadio Mane will be available after his red card was over turned.

Speaking ahead of the match, Southampton manager said: “I expect a difficult one. They have a really strong team, a lot of options and they’ve had two really good results against Manchester United in the Europa League. It was a must-win game for us against Stoke and it is the same again this weekend.”
