Liverpool Ready To Trigger Argentine’s £40m Release Clause, Deal Almost Done

Liverpool are reportedly set to seal a deal to bring in Argentine’s winger, Eduardo Salvio. Sport Witness are, however, of the opinion that the deal will be completed in January.

The Merseysiders already have a number of South American players in their ranks with Roberto Firmino the latest addition, the club is now set to add Salvio, with the transfer only a matter of “days away”, in the words of Bleacher report.

The player has a £40 million buyout clause although it is suggested the Kops will try and negotiate a better price with Benfica who are in financial trouble. (Sunday Express).

The above named source also confirmed the 24-year old is already heading to Anfield for talks, which will finally seal the transfer.

The move was said to have been agreed in May, only to be thwarted by a serious knee injury to the former Atletico Madrid man. Although “it was not the first time Salvio has suffered a serious knee injury, and it was a real blow to him, Liverpool move or not”(Sport Witness)

Portuguese newspaper, Diarios De Noticias was also reported to be affirming that despite the injury suffered by the winger, that has not affected the proposed January move, it only delayed it.

The injury may, therefore make Liverpool try to lower the price despite having an agreement of £25 million with Benfica. Meanwhile, the most crucial aspect which may make or mar the deal, is how Salvio proves his fitness to the Merseyside club before the January transfer window opens.

Salvio joined Benfica in 2012 and scored nine times in twenty nine appearances for the Portguese champions last season.
