Luke Shaw To Be Out For 12 Months Not 9 Months

The Daily Star is carrying a report about Arsenal striker Theo Walcott’s claim that it is important you do not put a time frame on a serious injury, as Manchester United’s Luke Shaw continues to recover from the leg fracture he suffered in September.

Walcott, a victim of one long-term injury, returned to the Arsenal first team after 11 months on the sidelines, meaning he missed England World Cup trip to Brazil in 2014. The pacey forward has now warned that the time frame for Shaw’s injury could be anything from six to twelve months.

“It is important to not put a time frame on it,” Walcott said. “I was 11 months in the end and it is when you are ready.

“Callum Wilson has done his (ligament). Luke Shaw has broken his leg.

“I think it is important for everyone to know they (experts) say six months, but you have to give people time and they will come back when they are ready.

“It could be six months if you are lucky, or nine, 10, 12 months.

“It takes time to come back to the same level from before you were out.”

Walcott goes into England’s last two qualifiers in stupendous form, having scored 12 goals in his last 14 starts for the Gunners. He was also influential in Arsenal’s 3-0 victory over Manchester United last weekend, setting up Mesut Ozil for their second goal of the game.

The former Southampton speedster has dislodged Olivier Giroud to take over the striker’s position, starting the last four games ahead of the former Montpellier frontman. And as it stands, Walcott is in a good stead to be in the England squad for the 2016 European Championships in France.

For Shaw however, the injury has arrived at a worse time as the left-back was in scintillating form for United before the horrific leg break. He had featured in all of the Red Devils’ Premier League games and is now set to miss the European tournament due to injury.
