Weird Move!!! Zouma To Start As Left-Back Against Villa Ahead Of Baba Rahman

One question which has always popped out from the mouths of some Chelsea supporters is ‘why did we sign Baba?’. And in all fairness, this question has been left unanswered by Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho.

Baba Rahman was signed in the summer for a fee believed to be around £21m and some fans and pundits alike thought the Ghanaian would struggle to earn playing time, simply because of the brilliance of Branislav Ivanovic and Cesar Azpilicueta on either full-back roles.

Fast forward to the Premier League season where the Blues have been alarmingly poor having only one the league title some months ago. They have been able to muster just two wins in eight game, with four being defeats. Right-back Ivanovic has come under intense criticism with many calling for him to be benched and Azpilcueta returned to his primary right-back duties, but Mourinho does not share that view. He believes the Serbian captain is his best right-back.

Now Chelsea fans appeared to have been given a glimmer of hope that now is the time that Ivanovic will be dropped, albeit forcefully, as the 31-year old is nursing an injury from international duty with Serbia. But it seems their hopes will be dashed, with reports claiming Mourinho is not even planning to play Baba in the left-back role for the game against Aston Villa on Saturday.

As per the Telegraph, Kurt Zouma is set to be handed a full-back role ahead of summer signing Baba, with the Frenchman set to play in a role he played in earlier in his career.

It is claimed Zouma’s physical presence is the reason the self-proclaimed Special One is choosing him ahead of Baba in order to deal with the aerial threats that will be posed by Villa’s Rudy Gestede.
