Arsenal Legend Thinks that Pep Guardiola Will Come to Emirates Stadium

Arsenal legend Paul Merson believes that current Bayern Munich manager Pep Guardiola would be the perfect fit for the Gunners. He also claims that if Arsene Wenger manages to win the Premier League title this season, he would like to step down as Arsenal manager and would recommend the club board to hire Guardiola.

Now, it’s difficult to guess which club the Spaniard manager is inclined to join in the summer, and there are conflicting reports in the media every day linking him with the likes of Man City, Chelsea, Man Utd, and Arsenal. But Merson believes that the playing style and the philosophy of the Gunners would perfectly suit the former Barcelona manager.

“I think Arsenal is a good fit for him, if I’m being honest,” Merson told Sky Sports News HQ. “I thought Arsene Wenger might have looked at it and thought, ‘Right, I’ve got a good chance of winning the Premier League this year’.

“He could go out in a blaze of glory and win that. He’s done great for the club, and he could say to the board, ‘I’ve been around for a long time… this man fits the bill.’

“Guardiola would come in and nothing has to change, and nothing would change. I think Arsenal don’t have to panic about different ways of playing, and I think he’s the perfect fit for Arsenal.

“But that would be up to Wenger. If Wenger knew now he could win the league; I think he would go to the board and say, ‘Get this man at all costs’.”

Merson, who now works as football pundit at Sky Sports, stayed with the Gunners for 12 years and won a couple of League titles during the George Graham era.
He played under Wenger during his first year at the club, before departing for Middlesbrough.
