Breaking news: Chelsea have been fined by Football Association following their ill-tempered game for £65,000
The English Football Association has announced that the Blues have been fined £65,000 and West Brom £35, 000 for failing to ensure their players conducted themselves in an orderly manner during the 2-2 Premier League draw at Stamford Bridge on January 13.
Chelsea ended up with a single point from the game, after West Brom twice came from behind to equalize the two goals.
The charge is linked to the 58th minute of the game, when Chelsea forward Diego Costa tumbled in front of West Brom midfielder Claudio Yacob.
Costa was the heart of several flashpoint that included a confrontation with the Yacob, who had already been booked when he brought down Costa, as he looked to join a counter-attack.
Yacob avoided punishment, prompting Chelsea complaints led by Captain John Terry. Yacob was then substituted for Saido Berahino two minutes later.
The two clubs were charged on 15th January but and an official statement was on Tuesday released on the English Football Association – FA’S website and it read: “Chelsea and West Bromwich Albion have been fined £65,000 and £35,000 respectively and warned as to their future conduct after both clubs admitted breaching FA Rule E20(a) in relation to their game on Jan. 13. 2016.”
“It was alleged that in or around the 58th minute of the fixture, they failed to ensure their players conducted themselves in an orderly fashion. The cases, which were considered ‘non-standard’ due to both clubs having committed similar breaches of FA Rule E20(a) within the preceding 12 months, were heard by an Independent Regulatory Commission on Monday [Jan. 25, 2016].
“For incidents that are considered ‘non-standard’ it is at the discretion of the Commission to determine what sanction it deems appropriate and it may, where applicable, take into account any previous proven charge(s) of a similar nature.”
Chelsea interim boss Guus Hiddink had earlier commented on the incident claiming that Yacob should have been dismissed and he was upset with the performance of referee Anthony Taylor.
