Arsenal given green light to seal £7m transfer deal for Bolton defender

The Gunners had a great start this season, but eventually crumbled under pressure. They are now working on reinforcing all aspects of their game, including their defense. On the other hand, Bolton has had a dreadful campaign that will see them relegated to a lower division.

The silver lining for both teams? They have both reportedly agreed to a deal that will bring Rob Holding, Bolton’s star defender, to The Emirates Stadium for £7 million.

The deal is said to be pretty much done, but it has been a rocky road. Arsenal’s initial £2 million bid was bumped up to £5 million, and now they are looking at a £7 million transfer fee.

Regardless of their woes on and off the pitch, Bolton are willing to hold on to Holding until the right club gives them the money they want. Other clubs interested in the 20-year-old’s services include Everton, Bournemouth and Celtic.

One thing is certain: The Trotters and Holding are parting ways. Interim Bolton manager Jimmy Phillips admitted he was forced to leave Holding out of his line up for the clash against Fulham, at the board’s request.

“I was asked by the board of directors not to play him yesterday,” he said. Philips continued “It would appear some clubs are interested in him somewhere down the line… I think the wheels are still in motion on that one and it’ll be a few days before we get an outcome.”
Although Bolton had a terrible season, Holding earned Bolton’s Player of the Year honors for the 2015-2016 season and has attracted the attention of many clubs in England.
