Borussia Monchengladbach 2 – 2 Werder Bremen

Denis Zakaria, and Monchengladbach supporters, must have thought that Zakaria had won all three points by himself. Zakaria scored from a narrow angle after Thomas Delaney had come out second best in a 50/50. Then another error from Bremen gave Zakaria his second goal involvement of the day, with Niklas Moisander diverting a cross into his own net. Horrid marking on a corner allowed Delaney to make up for his mistake by converting a free header. Aron Johannsson scored his first Bundesliga goal since 2016 to complete the comeback for the Green-Whites. Bremen find themselves flying (somewhat) high but Gladbach are on an opposite trajectory, averaging only a point a game from their last 10.

Wolfsburg 1 – 2 Bayer Leverkusen

(Mehmedi 79′ – Alario 31′ pen, Brandt 78′)

A delightful Julian Brandt secured Bayer Leverkusen a win over his former club, Wolfsburg. Leverkusen were in control for much of the match and Lucas Alario put away a first-half penalty to give them a deserved lead. Admir Mehmedi gave Wolfsburg a lifeline by curling in a shot against his former club for his first goal since signing for Wolfsburg. Alario was involved once more, playing a one two before Brandt put away the winner. Leverkusen stay in fifth while Wolfsburg fall even further into the relegation battle.

Eintracht Frankfurt 1 – 0 Hannover

Frankfurt came back from a loss to Stuttgart by securing all three points against Hannover. It didn’t come in the most entertaining fashion, with Hannover remaining a well organized defence throughout. Danny da Costa managed to break through, the defender scoring from a corner. Surprise package Eintracht move into 3rd place with the win.

Hamburg 0 – 0 Mainz

Hamburg had nearly every chance imaginable to win this match against Mainz. However, despite a penalty and playing against 10 men, Hamburg were unable to find a way past debutant Mainz goalkeeper Florian Muller.

Augsburg 0 – 2 Hoffenheim

(Kramaric 30′, Gnabry 50′)

Hoffenheim aim to steady the ship after winning what might have been a trick match against Augsburg. Andrej Kramaric continued his good form, heading in the first and providing the assist for Serge Gnabry’s second. Augsburg drop to ninth but still are over performing for a team named as relegation candidates.

Schalke 1 – 0 Hertha Berlin

Schalke held on to second place with a win over Hertha Berlin. It was far from their best game, but a Marko Pjaca goal was enough to win it. The goal summed up the game perfectly, with a mishit cross finding Franco Di Santo, who inelegantly pushed it on to Pjaca, who scuffed his shot.

RB Leipzig 1 – 1 Borussia Dortmund

A must win game for both teams ended in a draw. Dortmund remain undefeated under Peter Stoger in the Bundesliga but Leipzig stay outside the Champions League spots for yet another week. Augustin scored to put Leipzig early, but Marco Reus equalised nine minutes later. Dortmund had a goal disallowed and many attacks halted by offside calls.

SC Freiburg 0 – 4 Bayern Munich

(Schwolow 25’, Tolisso 28’, Wagner 54’, Muller 69’)

Robert Lewandowski watched on from the bench as Thomas Muller led a four-goal demolition of Freiburg. After Freiburg goalkeeper Alexander Schwolow diverted the ball into his own net, the game became more routine for the Bavarians. Bayern opened up a cushion after Tolisso struck what he called his “best goal” into the top corner. Sandro Wagner bundled home a third after a goalmouth scramble and Thomas Muller rounded off the rout he helped to start.
