Arsenal Back In For £80k-A-Week Midfielder – Mesut Ozil Replacement?

Arsenal have been given an opportunity to revive their past interest in Yohan Cabaye after the former Newcastle midfielder expressed his disillusion at his bit part role since he joined Paris Saint-Germain in January. The 28 year old was close to joining Arsenal last summer after the Magpies turned down a £10 million bid from Arsene Wenger’s side.

There is now an indication that Arsenal could still rekindle their interest as the club’s seeks a solution to the position of defensive midfield. Yohan Cabaye bared his mind at his lack of playing time since he moved to Paris, and went further to say he missed playing in England.

“You have to accept being a substitute, but I don’t resign myself to that. In training sessions, I have to give my best and show my desire to play.

“When I am on the pitch, I feel it is not perfect and that I often have to leave too soon. But I know the coach and staff have to make choices and I respect that.”

“Am I completely happy? To be honest, no. It is a new situation for me, but I don’t complain. It is the first time I haven’t played regularly for my club.

The former Lille midfielder then went further to say that he would reconsider his position as a PSG player if his place as a French national team player suffers as a result of lack of playing time.

“With the French team, if one day the national team coach decides to play me less because I don’t play often enough for my club, then I would need to take stock with my representatives.”

He did not stop there, where it gets interesting is when he said that he still considers the time he spent in England which brings Arsenal into the picture.

“Do I sometimes miss England? Yes. Sometimes I think about it, but I immediately sweep that away because it would cause distraction.

“I am at the Parc des Princes and I need to find the right atmosphere.”

Arsene Wenger seldom goes back to players he failed to sign in the first instance especially when a bid was turned down, which throws Yohan Cabaye’s situation at PSG into shape focus. However there is a hint that there could yet be an opportunity to sign the French international.

However, Arsene Wenger had wanted to sign him before he settled for Mathieu Flamini, whether he chooses to circumvent it again remains to be seen especially when it is considered that Yohan Cabaye is not the physical player that many have craved in central midfield.
