Arsenal Move To Sign £60,000-A-Week Star On The Cheap

One of the worst-kept secrets in the EPL is the contract situation of West Ham defender, Winston Reid who report says is being tracked by Arsenal. It is also widely known that Arsenal need reinforcement in the defence and the New Zealand player is seen as one player that will not only come in with EPL experience, but at a bargain. The reports claim Wenger is trying to sign the £60,000-a-Week star for just £3m.

Reid, whose contract expires at the end of the current season, has refused to put pen to paper on a new deal, which could see him leave his current club for free. He is also free to negotiate with foreign clubs this January. It is, however, understood that we are in for him, but what is not clear at this time is whether or not Wenger would go in for him now or wait till the end of the season to snap him up for free.

Reid’s form this season has seen his club among contenders for the top four; but that appears not to be enough to encourage the defender to renew or extend his contract with the London club. The Hammers may want to cash in on him rather than allow his contract to run out, which could see them lose out completely; and Arsenal may not be a bad destination for him.

We are faced with all kinds of injury woes, and signing this highly experienced defender could help us in our bid to secure top four, which is the minimum target expected of a club of Arsenal’s magnitude.

Arsenal may not be the only EPL club interested in the defender, who is also being watched by Spurs and Liverpool; but the lure of Champions League and the attraction of remaining in London could be enough to give the Gunners the upper hand.

To further confirm the availability of the defender in the market, his manager Sam Allardyce did admit that the Hammers are helpless in terms of keeping him, and confirmed that the defender is all but set to depart the club at the end of the season.

Winston Reid will provide us the much needed depth in defence, and allow the manager to rest some of his key players as we approach the latter end of the season. Arsenal have only been knocked out of the Capital One Cup this season, and are still in contention in the Champions League and the FA Cup.
