Arsene Wenger issues a controversial statement about current Premier League leaders

Wenger has lauded Leicester City’s success and holds them in high regard as they head into Christmas as league leaders. The English club that got promoted to Premier League in 2014, and ended that season standing at 14th place. This season not only are they in the top four but heading the title race. Their phenomenal season has gotten them high praise from none other than Arsene Wenger who is a huge fan of winning big from small budgets.

Leicester City has managed to have a spectacular season without spending big. This is definitely inspiring and an example for the entire footballing world. As said by Wenger, ‘Not only for English football, it’s good for everybody in football all over the world to see that teams who are not on the biggest budget at the start can compete as well.’

‘There’s always a way to be successful when you’re intelligent and competent. Of course that’s very positive and they’ve shown another fantastic performance on Monday night [against Chelsea].’

Arsenal is the only team that has given Leicester their only defeat of the season so far. The club lost 5-2 at home, with a hat-trick by Alexis Sanchez ending their unbeaten start to the premier league.

As reported on Arsenal’s official website, Wenger said, ‘I always took them seriously but when we won 5-2 over there, nobody took our performance seriously.

‘They just thought it was normal that we won at Leicester, but ever since you have been able to see that it was a great result and a great performance on the day.’

Arsenal will have a chance again in February to end their winning streak provided they remain unbeaten till then. Leicester has to face Manchester City and Liverpool twice before meeting the Gunners at the Emirates Stadium.

Arsenal has to win their next fixture against City to maintain their two points difference with the Foxes but also to prevent losing the position to City. Arsenal can either stay second or drop to third position in the league which wouldn’t make the fans happy.
