Exciting And Disappointing Moments: Fenerbahçe – Galatasaray

Football lovers were waiting for the magical 90 minutes. Despite all negative thoughts, Fenerbahce’s fans were feeling hopeful about the victory. How could they not feel like that? Were they not winning for 19 years at home? However, what if the winning streak would end? This is because, FB have been performing poorly, but hope springs eternal in the human heart.

The Big Moment Has Come

FB’s manager Aykut Kocaman did not prefer Valbuena again. However, his Mehmet Ekici preference was surprising for some people (not for me)

GS’s manager Fatih Terim started with their standard squad, Gomis, Belhanda, Feghouli, Garry Rodrigues etc. except Mariano who suspended for the accumulation of yellow cards.

Passing

Both teams’ passes lacked quality. According to www.whoscored.com, FB’s pass success was 74% while GS’s pass success was 67%. Especially GS were terrible. 67% is the lowest rate of GS this season.

The Minutes Are Passing

FB missed a significant opportunity with Guliano. He has a great technique. He must have scored.

There were several minutes to end the game. Tolga Cigerci had a great opportunity to finish the Yellow Canaries off. He could have inverted ill luck. He could have been the hero. The day after, the newspapers would have captioned “knight of Kadiköy” (where FB’s stadium locates) Shortly, he missed. There are some videos of it. When he missed, some fans in front of TV were almost breaking the TV because of anger.

Referee!

The match was over with 0-0. After the game, Aykut Kocaman complained about the referee. Was he right? Yes, he was. The referee showed poor performance. In some football programmes, the referee and his decisions were criticised.

Some Notes

Actually, FB and GS created goal scoring opportunities, but they were really bad at finishing. However, FB’s xG was 0,86. Gs’s xG was 0,78. As you can understand, both teams didn’t play effectively in the final third.

Men of the match were the goalkeepers, Muslera and Volkan Demirel.

Fenerbahçe moved away from the title because the other Istanbul derby played between Basaksehir and Besiktas resulted in Basaksehir’s victory. Besiktas’s loss made GS hopeful for the title.
