Manchester United Plan January Spending Spree – CB & Striker Signing Likely

Manchester United have confirmed that they will continue to splash the cash to invest in suitable players, as per the Daily Mail journalist Mike Keegan via Squawka.

Since Louis van Gaal became boss at the Old Trafford outfit after the departure of Sir Alex Ferguson’s successor David Moyes, the club have been spending massively to bring in top stars in order to return to their old glory days.

This past summer, United signed six players following their Champions League qualification. This includes players like Memphis Depay, Matteo Darmian, Morgan Schneiderlin and Bastian Schweinsteiger. The Mancunian Reds also coughed up a fee as high as a reported £36m for Anthony Martial on deadline day, making the French youngster the most expensive teenager in world football.

The former Monaco star has so far started life brightly at Old Trafford, as he netted the last goal in United’s 3-1 demolition of Liverpool last weekend, although the club’s results this term has been somewhat mixed.

PSV Eindhoven exposed the United fragile defence on Tuesday evening as the Red Devils lost 2-1 to Depay’s former team after the young Dutchman had opened the scoring.

United’s inability to sign a top notch central defender throughout the summer transfer window has led van Gaal to fielding midfielder cum left-back, Daley Blind, as a left-sided centre-back beside Chris Smalling. The Red Devils chased Sergio Ramos relentlessly but the Real Madrid captain opted to extend his deal at the Santiago Bernabeu, while Nicolas Otamendi also decided to join United’s “noisy neighbours” Manchester City, instead.

Louis van Gaal’s side could now look to sign defensive covers in the winter transfer in order to clinch the league title.
