New Twist In Griezmann To Chelsea Rumour, Atletico Star Could Be Off To London

According to AS, as reported by Squawka, the Blues are prepared to offer Filipe Luis back to Atletico in order to push through a deal for Arda Turan. The 28-year old midfielder is one of Jose Mourinho’s wanted man this summer transfer, but Atletico do not want to sell their star man. This could mean Chelsea have dropped their interest in Antoine Griezmann in favour of Turan? I hope not.

Chelsea are, however hopeful of “striking a deal with Atletico by offering Filipe Luis” (Telegraph). Luis moved to Stamford Bridge from the Vicente Calderon last summer, but has since seen his playing time limited due to the brilliant performances of Cesar Azpilicueta. The Blues’ recent interest in Augsburg’s Baba Rahman, a left back, might therefore spur Luis to want to make the move.

Atletico Madrid will be holding out for a fee believed to be in the region of £25 million for Turan, according to the Telegraph. Chelsea, therefore believe they will get him cheaper if they include the 29-year old Luis in the deal. Atletico’s coach, Diego Simeone will welcome Filipe Luis to the Vicente Calderon with open arms as his replacements haven’t really been impressive.

Turan’s agent, Ahmet Bulut spoke about his client’s desire to play in the Premier League some days ago. Chelsea will, of course, be encouraged to continue their pursuit of the midfielder, as a result of this development.

Atletico Madrid are known to be unable to hold on to any of their star men in the past, as evident in the recent sale of Diego Costa to Chelsea. Other star players the club have sold include Radamel Falcao, Sergio Aguero and David Villa.

If Chelsea get to sign Turan, the implication is that Colombian’s Juan Cudrado (recently signed from Fiorentina), Obi Mikel and Ramires may be shown the exit door.

Cuadrado has failed to make an impact since switching to Stamford Bridge in January, while Mikel and Ramires had to settle for bench roles throughout the course of last season.

Turan will be Chelsea’s first major addition in their bid to defend their EPL title, and go further in next Champions League, which is Jose Mourinho’s wish.

Meanwhile, Chelsea want another Atletico Madrid’s player, Antoine Griezmann, who is rumoured to cost £40 million.
