Manchester United Set To Beat Chelsea To Signing Of John Stones

Manchester United may beat Chelsea to the signing of high rated Everton Centre back John Stones according to ESPN.

Stones, 21, has been linked with a move to Chelsea after news broke weeks ago that the blues have tabled a bid said to be for £20 million for the player which was rejected by Everton. The blues were said to have sent in a second bid for £26 million which was also rejected.

Reports had it that Everton will not be selling the player for any amount less than £30 million and rightly so. He is English and his home grown status is surely going to add a few extra millions to his true value – which if you ask me should not be more than £20 million.

With Manchester United reportedly interested in the player, Chelsea can as well forget the chance to sign the player. With Manchester United seemingly ready to burn the cash, Chelsea who are seemingly cautious of the FFP laws may miss out on the player.

Should the reported interest from Manchester United be true, the player will know with just Phil Jones and Smalling to contest with at old Trafford, he stands a good chance of regular first team football unlike with Chelsea where he would have to wait for John Terry’s inevitable retirement at the end of this season before he can command regular playing chance with the first team.
