Tim Krul Return Out For The Rest Of The Season With Anterior Cruciate Injury

Newcastle woes wouldn’t just stop, as they have just been dealt a heavy blow with the injury of their 1st-choice goalie, Netherlands’ Tim Krul. The 27 year-old picked up an anterior cruciate injury while manning the post for the Dutch in their 2-1 win over Kazakhstan at the weekend, and was seen leaving the stadium on crutches after he had limped off the pitch with just 10 minutes of play left.

Further scans revealed the injury to his right knee will see him miss out the rest of the season. Netherlands will also be without the services of their first choice, Jasper Cillessen who pulled out just during the warm up prior to the match.

Steve McClaren-led side are currently bottom of the League, after losing 5 games, drawing thrice and failing to pick up a single victory in all 8 games. Several crucial Tim Krul’s saves have however made the draws possible, and he has kept a clean sheet thus far.

However, the expert penalty-stopper couldn’t save the North-East club from further miseries when they faced Manchester City before the international break as he conceded 6 goals. Newcastle’s hope of coming back better from the break might now be far-fetched, as they are also without stand-in goalie, Karl Darlow who is also on the injury sidelines for an unspecified time.

They will now have to do with the services of Rob Elliot. The 29 year-old will be called into action against the Alex Neil-led Norwich by weekend. The Canaries have a great away record this season, and they may wreck more havoc on the Magpies’ aspirations of leaving the relegation zone.
