5 Players Chelsea Can Sign In January

Chelsea have had a terrible season so far and find themselves in the 15th position on the English Premier League table after thirteen league matches and are currently fighting relegation as they try to see what can be done to salvage the situation despite being the current defending champions of the Premiership title. Jose Mourinho may have however found the solution to the club’s problems and he might believe that it will only take some major team overhaul to turn things around at the club and he is targeting a number of players for the January transfer window.

Here is a list of players Chelsea can sign in the January transfer window:

Alex Teixeira is a Brazilian attacking midfielder, who currently plays for Shakhtar Donetsk and has been on the shortlist of the Blues for a long time and could add something major to the team especially with their midfielders not finding their rhythm at the moment. However, Chelsea have been told by Shakhtar Donetsk that it will take a bid in excess of £30million to convince them to sell the player and although this is not too much for Chelsea, it might take some convincing for the management to allow such a huge fee to be coughed out for one player. But with Abramovich’s concern of recent, he might personally take it upon himself to carry out the negotiations.

Marquinhos is a Brazilian professional footballer who plays for French club Paris Saint-Germain and the Brazil national team as a centre-back and has been on Chelsea’s wish list for a while now. Although he is such a young player, he is such an experienced defender and if Chelsea had launched their bid early enough in the summer, he might have been convinced to come. Chelsea however have a better chance already as the defender is reportedly tired with life at PSG as he is behind Thiago Silva and David Luiz in the pecking order and wants a move to a team where he will get regular football.

John Stones plays for Everton and the English national team as a central defender but can also play as a right-back.  The 21-year-old was seriously chased by Jose Mourinho in the summer but the deal did not materialize and fans are of the opinion that this player alone could have saved the team from their present predicament. Mourinho has recently stated he will go back for the player in January but might face stiff competition from Barcelona and Manchester United who also want the player.

Marco Reus is a German professional footballer who plays as an attacking midfielder, winger or striker for German Bundesliga club Borussia Dortmund and the Germany national team. Reus is an incredibly versatile player who can also add something to the Chelsea squad with his speed and quality. Especially with attacker Eden Hazard not doing well at the moment and not even showing signs that he is ready to play better.

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang is a Gabonese attacking midfielder and forward who currently plays for German club Borussia Dortmund and the Gabon national football team. The 26-year-old forward could easily add something to the Blues squad whose attackers have been just woeful and need a serious overhaul. In fact, the combination of him and Reus could just be the key to get Chelsea out of their present situation.

It remains to be seen which players will have become Blues by the end of the January transfer window.
