Manchester United Vs Everton: Match preview and predicted lineups: Rashford in starting XI

The Red Devils will host the Toffees at Old Trafford on Sunday. United will be looking forward to building upon their impressive win in Manchester derby. United, who have struggled to find consistency in their results throughout this season, can’t afford any more slip-ups in their pursuit of a top-four place.

They currently sit in the sixth position in the league table, level on points with fifth-placed West Ham and one behind fourth-placed Man City. Meanwhile, Everton will come into the game on the back of a disappointing 2-0 home defeat against Arsenal.

Manager Roberto Martinez called the defeat at Goodison Park as the Merseysiders’ worst performance of the season. Everton have emerged as one of the most attacking sides in the league this season, but their defensive frailties have time and time again cost them points.

However, Toffees boast of a decent recent record against United and have won four of their last seven meetings in the Premier League.

Team News:

For Man Utd, midfielder Bastian Schweinsteiger is set to miss the rest of the season because of the ligament injury he suffered on the international duty. Wayne Rooney and Luke Shaw are close to joining first-team training but will remain on sidelines for this game.

Louis Van Gaal revealed in his press conference that Shaw is unlikely to feature for United again this season.

Luke Shaw next week shall start the first training sessions on the pitch,” the manager said. “He has been in the pool, in the gym, on the treadmill. But now he can train with his body on the pitch, but Luke knows it will be very difficult to play the final of the FA Cup.”

Phil Jones and Will Keane also remain absent, but the duo of Ashley Young and Ander Herrera will be hoping to be involved after recovering from respective groin problems.

For Everton, centre-back John Stones is back in contention after recovering from a minor knock he suffered on England’s duty. Belgian forward Kevin Mirallas will be available after serving his suspension for the red card he received in the 3-2 defeat to West Ham.

However, Gareth Barry will be serving the final game of his two-game suspension. Defender Bryan Oviedo will be available after recovering from a chest infection.

Predicted Lineups:

Man Utd: De Gea; Blind, Smalling, Darmian, Varela; Carrick, Schneiderlin; Martial, Lingard, Mata; Rashford

Everton: Robles; Coleman, Jagielka, Funes Mori, Baines; McCarthy, Besic; Cleverly, Barkley, Lennon; Lukaku
