Hummels He Could Sign For Manchester UTD Despite Recent Quotes

Mats Hummels has insisted that he will not be tempted into joining Manchester United for financial gains, reportsĀ has confirmed. Hummels, who was an integral part of Germany’s world cup winning side is getting by just fine with what he makes at Dortmund and is not concerned about offers from big spenders like Manchester United, Real Madrid and Barcelona.

While fielding questions from Bundesliga Magazine International, the center back admitted that “it’s nice to hear that big clubs like United, Madrid and Barcelona are interested in you”. He further explained that although the report came as a compliment, he will not allow that to influence him. The German felt there will always be clubs who can muscle down BVB financially but he is not deterred and if the day ever comes that he decides to move abroad, money will never be the reason.

This to me is actually good news to Manchester United as he has not totally ruled out leaving Dortmund for another club but has only disclosed money will not be a determinat in his consideration when and if he finally decides to move.

Mats was on the fore front of Louis Van Gaal’s list of defensive targets but after several attempts, the deal fell through and after the German’s recent comments, United are unlikely to be able to sign him in January. United’s attitude to their defensive issues have seen them miss out on not only Hummels but Benatia, Vermaleen and Rob Vlaar. For a team thatĀ  released 3 senior defenders in Vidic, Ferdinand and Evra this summer, it is surprising that they neglected the defense in most of their spending. In fact apart for the teenager, Luke Shaw and the left footed Argentine, Marcos Rojo,Ā  United haven’t injected new blood defensively which is why at the instance of any injury, they are quick to call on the services of the reserve team players.

Many pundits have highlighted these defensive frailties as the reason for United’s issues this season with the loss to Swansea and Liecester City being the flash points. Hopefully, by January, Van Gaal will concentrate more on building a rock solid defense to ease Manchester United of their troubles.
