Almost Done – Manchester United Set To Complete Transfer Of £200,000-A-Week Star

Robin Van Persie’s stock has fallen considerably since last summer. The player who won Manchester United their 20th Premier League title in 2012/13 after joining from Arsenal has been a shadow of his former self and has consistently failed to perform to his former standards.

SInce Sir Alex Ferguson left United at the end of Van Persie’s first season with United, the striker’s form has only gone downhill. He started well under Moyes , but went off the boil after a few weeks into the season. His performances under Louis Van Gaal further proved his decline. A relatively meager return of 10 goals and 2 assists last season is not worthy of a world class striker that many deem him to be.

Reports earlier in the summer had linked him with a move away from the club. However, United manager Louis Van Gaal is a big fan of his former protégée and it remained unclear what his next move would be.

However, if reports in the Turkish outlet LigTV are to be believed, the 31-year-old Dutch striker, who has a single year left on his current deal, is on the verge of joining Turkish club Fenerbahce after the two clubs agreed a fee reportedly worth €7 million. All that is remaining is for the striker to undergo a medical. As per the report, the Netherlands international has agreed a three year contract with the Turkish league runners up with the option of an additional fourth.

Van Persie lost his spot in the United starting lineup last season after falling behind Wayne Rooney and Radamel Falcao. The Old Trafford outfit are in need of reinforcements in the striking  department this summer after the club chose not to extend Falcao’s loan deal and Javier Hernandez reportedly on his way out. With Van Persie’s impending exit, Wayne Rooney remains the only world class option as striker at United.

There would be mixed feelings from the Old Trafford faithful towards the departure of one-time Arsenal crowd favorite, and that perfectly sums up the striker’s career trajectory at the club- starting with a bang and ending in indifference.
