Another Sanchez? Wenger Plan Signing Of Another La Liga Star

The Metro is reporting that Arsenal are currently keeping tabs on Barcelona youngster Alex Grimaldo as he considers a transfer away. However, the Gunners will have to first fend off interests from Bayern Munich.

Grimaldo, 20, currently skippers Barcelona B team and is not willing to negotiate a new contract extension with the Spanish giants. He could now follow in the footsteps of Cesc Fabregas and Hector Bellerin to make a move to Arsenal in January. Fabregas and Bellerin left Barcelona for the north London club to pursue first-team footballer and they earned it upon joining Arséne Wenger’s side.

Grimaldo plays as a left-back for Barca Bs and is regarded as one of the most talented left-back in Europe. The 20-year old knows it would be difficult breaking into the star-studded senior team, with Jordi Alba currently playing as first-choice left-back in the side. Hence, a move away from Spain seems to be the viable option.

At Arsenal, Nacho Monreal has earned the first-choice left-back position this season after dislodging Kieran Gibbs. But the former Athletico Bilbao ace is 29 and get soon find his legs getting weak. Therefore, it would make brilliant sense to sign Grimaldo as early as January before Bayern swoops for him.

Bayern have Alaba as regular left-back in the side, but Grimaldo could be an understudy to the Austrian defender and also a good back-up should an injury occur to Alaba.

Arsenal are currently tied on points with Manchester City who are on top of the Premier League table and, additions of suitable players could aid the Gunners’ cause for the title this term.
