Arsenal News – New £25m Bid Made For DM, Lacazette May Become A Gunner & Other News

Activities at the Highbury Towers seem quiet at the moment, but the independent reports that activities are expected to pick up over the next fortnight starting with a bid for Sporting Lisbon’s William Carvalho. The paper claims that the fee will be in excess of £25 million.

Again, the Portuguese international has become a by-word for Arsenal’s need for an upgrade of the club’s personnel in its holding midfield. Regular readers would have been aware of the chronological order of the 22 year old continuous link to Arsenal which dates back to last summer. At the time, many harboured hope that he could still be signed on the last day of the window, it looks like it would play out that same way this month.

Attention turns to Southampton’s Morgan Schneiderlin, after Sunday’s performance at Old Trafford against Manchester United, his stock has gone up a notch. The Daily Express reports that Arsenal could stand alone in their move for the 25 year old. This is after North London rivals Tottenham Hotspur turned their attention to Everton’s midfielder James McCarthy. The Lilywhites came closest to signing Schneiderlin last summer when they had a bid rejected.

The names of midfielders are currently dominating the media sphere at the moment. Borussia Dortmund’s IIkay Gundogan is another that the Daily star claims is interesting Arsenal. The paper reports that the club has opened talks with Dortmund  over a £16 million move for the midfielder who is of Turkish descent.

However, a new twist emerged on Saturday in Arsenal’s pursuit of Krystian Bielik after reports emerged that the 17 year old flew to Germany to hold talks with Hamburg. The Legia Warsaw defensive midfielder has been the subject of two bids that was rejected. After Wenger confirmed his interest in the midfielder, the trip to Germany would not have been what he wanted to hear. Although, the president of Legia Warsaw stated that there is still one round of talks to hold with Arsenal after confirming the player’s trip to Germany.

Question is, is he pursuit of this player worth all the trouble? Why can’t the club use the funds to get an experience player? The Telegraph reports that if Bielik is eventually signed, he would be a replacement for Kristopher Olsson, whose permanent departure from the club was confirmed last week.

The names of midfielders are not the only ones that have dominated the pages on the media, The Express reports that Lyon’s Alexandre Lacazette has given Arsenal and Liverpool a boost after he revealed that he wants to play in Spain or England. The French striker is currently the highest goal scorer in Ligue Un.

The usual suspects of Loic Perrin and Gabriel Paulista were also mentioned, but Arsene Wenger knocked them off last week Friday.
